Daily disposable contact lenses remain our best-sellers as wearers enjoy their simplicity and convenience and are prepared to pay a premium for the privilege: no cleaning required! Johnson & Johnson's 1-Day Acuvue remains the most popular daily lens, with Ciba Focus Dailies All Day Comfort and Bausch & Lomb Soflens One Day close behind. Johnson & Johnson's new premium lens, the 1-Day Acuvue Moist, is rapidly gaining converts.

Johnson & Johnson also offers three disposable lenses with 1-2 week replacement cycles: Acuvue 2, and the new Acuvue Advance with Hydraclear and Acuvue Oasys with Hydraclear.

Next come monthly contact lenses. These are cheaper than daily lenses, though do require nightly cleaning. The most popular are Frequency 55, Proclear, Focus Visitint, Surevue, Precision UV, Soflens 59, Frequency 55 Aspheric and Actifresh 400. The two extended wear disposable lenses, Ciba's Air Optix Night & Day and Bausch & Lomb's Purevision, which can be worn for up to 30 days and nights without removal, are also now firmly established.

Toric contact lenses are used to cure astigmatism. The two new daily toric lenses, Johnson & Johnson's 1 Day Acuvue for Astigmatism and Ciba's Focus Dailies Toric have been a big hit, although many astigmatic lens wearers still opt for monthly disposable toric lenses. The most popular monthly brands are Soflens Toric, Focus Toric Visitint, Frequency XCEL Toric, Actitoric, and Proclear Toric. Johnson & Johnson also offers a toric lens with a 1-2 week replacement cycle, the Acuvue Advance for Astigmatism, and Bausch & Lomb offers its Purevision Toric extended wear lens which can be worn for up to 30 days without removal.

Coloured contact lenses are on the rise in today's increasingly fashion-conscious world. Ciba's Freshlook range is in top-spot, with Freshlook Colours proving the most popular, followed by Freshlook Colour Blends and Freshlook Dimensions; Ciba also offers the ever-popular Focus Softcolours. Ciba's only serious competitor in this field is Coopervision with its Expressions Colours lens.
